Jayun-yeop, a servant of the Gamsuk Seol clan, has always believed his master to be a fool — a man easily manipulated by his cunning new wife, Chusanmi. In sharp contrast stands the clan's eldest son, Seol Su-beom: upright, sharp, and, in Jayun-yeop's estimation, the most frightening person he has ever known. After getting caught stealing and being thoroughly humiliated by Su-beom, Jayun-yeop nonetheless finds himself helping the young man unravel Chusanmi's schemes. When Su-beom vows to leave and grow strong enough to deal with his enemies himself, Jayun-yeop also sets out on his own path — determined to live not as an orphan or a servant, but as a free man of his own making. Through a mysterious secret manual, he masters his own unique martial arts and forges bonds with new companions, slowly closing in on the hidden conspiracy that has shadowed the Seol clan. Then one day, the two men cross paths again — and Jayun-yeop is stunned by what he sees. The rigid, upstanding son of a righteous family is wielding the same unorthodox, forbidden techniques that Jayun-yeop himself practices.
