Acute Evaporation Syndrome is a terrifying new disease: the body's moisture violently expels as steam, and it is always fatal. The illness strikes in clusters of three, and left alone, all three victims will die. There is one grim loophole — if the infected group passes the disease to a fourth person, only one out of the four will die instead of all three. As the syndrome spreads globally, governments scramble for answers, while infected strangers — friends, coworkers, criminals — are thrown together in a brutal game of survival not unlike Russian roulette, each one desperate to make sure they are not the one who ends up dead. In the middle of it all, a mysterious field investigator known only as S begins lurking around outbreak sites, gathering information. Something about this person is deeply off.
