The story of Kwon, the warrior who would one day be called the guardian of Goryeo, begins in his childhood. Kwon and his older brother Jeong are the sons of Manjeok — the most powerful warrior-slave in all of Goryeo. When Manjeok leads a revolt to free the enslaved, the rebellion fails and he is killed, leaving his sons hunted and in constant danger. The brothers go into hiding and train in their father's martial arts, until a deadly ambush by powerful assailants claims Jeong's life and leaves Kwon barely alive. Fleeing for his life, Kwon loses consciousness and wakes up somewhere unexpected: the fighting arenas of Song Dynasty China — and not ordinary arenas, but an entire region where strength is the only law and only the strongest survive. Vowing to grow powerful enough to return and avenge his brother, Kwon resolves to conquer this brutal world first.
