In the spring of 2003, barely scraping by in my first solo apartment, two tiny kittens — Ppotto and Jjagu — unexpectedly came into my life. Everyone told me I couldn't afford to keep them, but I was determined to do right by these two little lives no matter what. The following year, a stray kitten named Jjoko was discovered in a friend's warehouse — meant to be a short foster stay, she never left. After moving back in with my parents, the family kept growing: Porbi, rescued from atop a wall; Bonggu and Ddonggulja, found in a box in an alleyway; and sunny little Kkongji, encountered out of nowhere on the neighborhood field. Over more than a decade, this is the story of meeting them, living alongside them, and eventually saying goodbye.
