Cheong-lim, an ethnic Korean from China, works in Shenyang under his cousin Si-gwon, a mid-level boss in a violent criminal organization. He lives a precarious life handling Si-gwon's most dangerous jobs. One day, while trying to collect a gambling debt, the debtor asks for a month's extension and offers collateral — leading Cheong-lim to a warehouse where a woman sits bound in rags. Her name is Kim Ok, a North Korean defector being used as leverage. Cheong-lim takes her back to his hometown, and although she is guarded and wary of him at first, his quiet, understated care gradually opens her heart. He, too, finds himself unable to stop thinking about her. As their feelings slowly grow, fate seems determined to tear them apart.
