On the night her kingdom falls and the royal family is executed, Clarice braces for death — only to hear something unexpected from the man who conquered it all. "I cannot put someone who has not yet turned eighteen to death. Instead, on the day you turn eighteen, I will execute you." And so Clarice is given ten years. She departs for the northern territories as a prisoner, with only one request of the Grand Duke. "May I bring this with me? It's my only friend." In her outstretched hand: a small stone. A new life in the north begins — and somehow, against all odds, this existence as a prisoner keeps growing on her.
